In June 2024, the LOGES project, an InterReg Vlaanderen-Nederland project, launched. The project wants to contribute to accelerating the energy transition at a local level. It focuses on the interplay between electricity and heat as well as the different forms of cooperation that allow for local energy systems to be viable.
Circular, with additional co-funding from Vlaams Gewest and Provincie Oost-Vlaanderen, will be leading Work Package 4, executing a comparative assessment of four pillars that are crucial to successful local energy systems:
- How are citizens and businesses involved and engaged?
- What legal structures (cv, vzw, nv…) are relevant to organising an energy community?
- How is the financial set-up between consumers and producers?
- What forms of energy monitoring and management are applied?
Comparing the answer to these questions between a broad range of existing and starting energy communities should lead to an overview of what approaches tend to work best in which contexts. The results of this work will be shared in a series of workshops and masterclasses throughout the course of the project, which runs until May 2027.
In addition to this leading role, Circular will assist project partners in the execution of other project aspects, contributing with its expertise on local energy systems and energy communities.
